Messy Church

Church – with a difference for all the family to enjoy together

Messy Church is a form of church for children and adults that involves creativity, celebration and hospitality.

It is normally a two hour event which includes games, crafts, activities, story, singing and a meal.  There is a different theme each time we meet.  We meet approx every 6-8 weeks in the Hulland Ward and District Millennium Village Hall from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

Our next Messy Church event will be on Saturday 11th October 2025

More details of this session can be found here.

You don’t need to book, you can just turn up as a family and join in with everything that is going on.  However, knowing roughly how many are coming helps for catering purposes.

There is no charge, but donations are welcome.

Eco Church

Putting care for God’s creation at the heart of ministry and mission.

What is Eco Church?

Eco Church is an award scheme for churches of all shapes and sizes in England and Wales and is open to all denominations. The A Rocha Eco Church survey provides a framework to support churches to take practical action on caring for God’s earth. The survey covers five key areas of church life:

1. Worship and Teaching
2. Buildings and Energy
3. Land and Nature
4. Community and Global Engagement
5. Lifestyle

In other words – everything from celebrating and teaching care of God’s earth in our worship, the energy we use, the wildlife we support, any environmental projects we support locally, nationally or globally, and the individual lifestyle choices we all make.

Three churches in our Benefice have registered for the Eco Church survey.

  • Hulland achieved bronze in 2022 and silver in 2023. Click here for some of the initiatives undertaken to achieve these awards.
  • Kniveton achieved bronze award in 2023 and silver in 2024. Click here for some of the initiatives undertaken to achieve their awards.

Hulland Hikers

Hulland Hikers are a group of locals who enjoy occasional Saturday morning walks together. Walks are generally between 4 and 6 miles, start at 10.00am and finish by lunchtime. Some walkers enjoy a lunch together afterwards at a convenient pub. The starting points are within a 15 minute drive from Hulland. The volunteer leader does a recce, and a risk assessment but is not insured so walkers are reminded they walk at their own risk.

Our next walk is Saturday 10th January 2026. We will meet outside Hognaston church at 10.00am. From there we’ll walk to Carsington Reservoir along field footpaths and tracks. At the Visitors Centre we’ll have a stop for coffee, then return using either a shorter or longer route. Total distance will be either 3 or 4 miles. Please contact Penny on 01335 370592 or email if you would like to join us.

The photos below show our walks in 2024 and 2025. The starting points were Carlton, Kniveton, Hulland Ward, Carsington village, Osmaston and Sheepwash, Carsington.

Contact Penny on 370592 or by email if you are interested in coming on a walk.
