St Michael and All Angels, Kniveton

St Michael and All Angels is a Grade I listed church with Norman origins, standing at the heart of the village of Kniveton between Ashbourne and Carsington Water. For centuries it has been a place of worship, prayer and shared community memory.

We hold two well-attended Holy Communion services each month, together with a short service of Morning Prayer every Thursday. Our congregation is warm and welcoming, with lay members and volunteers sharing in worship and helping to care for the church and churchyard.

The church is held in great affection by the wider village, including many people who do not worship regularly. Village celebrations, our Christmas Craft Fair and the much-loved Harvest Supper bring people of all ages together. Our relationship with Kniveton Church of England Primary School is particularly important to us, and children join us in church for special services during the year.

A recent National Lottery Heritage Fund project brought church members, village volunteers and local organisations together. As well as essential conservation work and improvements to access, it enabled us to develop new heritage resources and improve biodiversity in the churchyard. We have achieved a Silver Eco Church Award and also support local charities and projects further afield, including work providing clean water in Burkina Faso.
