St. Philip and St. James, Atlow

St Philip and St James serves the small village of Atlow, a friendly rural community of fewer than 100 people set in a beautiful Derbyshire dale.

The present Grade II listed church was built in 1874 in the Early English style and designed by Henry Isaac Stevens. It replaced an earlier chapel associated with Bradbourne, which is mentioned in records dating back to 1278. Its peaceful setting makes it a particularly attractive and popular church for weddings.

We hold two regular services each month, with larger congregations gathering for festivals and special occasions. The church is valued by the village as a place of worship and as a source of stability and continuity within the community.

Atlow may be small, but it has a strong community spirit and an impressive range of events. Summer fêtes, harvest suppers, French evenings, Burns suppers, quizzes, classic-car events and concerts attract support from across the Benefice and beyond.
