A statement from Alvaston Press:
It is with great sadness that we have taken the decision that the December issue will be the very last edition of the SDCL.
I believe that it has been a part of the Southern Derbyshire church community for a staggering 67 years and we here at Alvaston Press have been privileged to produce it for a little over a decade.
Subscription numbers have fallen steadily every year that we have been involved but despite this the production costs have always been covered by the subscribers and the wonderful local businesses who have advertised with us.
Recent changes in the Southern Derbyshire area have seen 3 parishes withdraw their subscriptions to the SDCL and this, along with the inevitable further decline in subscriptions from the remaining parishes, unfortunately makes further production unsustainable.
We would like to thank everybody who is, or has been, in any way involved with the monthly submission of information to appear in these pages, and also all those who have helped with its distribution – without your help the SDCL could not have been produced at all.
The team here have really enjoyed producing this and we will miss it as I’m sure you will too.
