The Award Winning Male Voice Choir
The Daleian Singers In Concert
at St Oswald’s Church, Ashbourne on 19th May at 7.30pm
The Daleian Singers formed sixty years ago in Silverdale, Staffordshire, currently boast a membership of sixty five and are especially proud to have two teenagers within their ranks, one of whom has a father in the choir. In 2015 and 2016 the choir won the annual North Wales Music Festivals and in 2014 won the male and overall competition at Biddulph. Most of all, the Daleians enjoy entertaining, especially if they can raise money for charity and good causes.
The choir has a broad repertoire ranging from old English melodies, music from the shows such as ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘Man of La Mancha’, songs like ‘Walk Away’ and ‘What a Wonderful World’ first made famous by Mat Monro and Louis Armstrong to ‘Let the River Run’ by Carly Simon, not to mention some rousing Welsh hymns. No promises, but some of these might be included in the concert programme. The choir of Denstone College Preparatory School will feature in the concert.
The proceeds of the evening will be shared between the ACE Youth Trust and the St Oswald’s Church Hall Restoration Fund.
ACE Youth Trust reaches out to the hard to reach, disadvantaged and vulnerable local young people in and around Ashbourne; they aim to provide recreational and leisure activities, as well as support and guidance, intended to help young people aged 11 to 19 to grow as individuals and improve their quality of life.
St Oswald’s Church Hall is a facility greatly appreciated and much used by the local community, including ‘ACE’, and last year embarked on a Restoration Programme that included new windows and there are further works to come to maintain and improve access so the community can continue using and enjoying the Hall for many more years to come.
Tickets, £10, can be reserved in advance by calling Nigel Rode on 01335 664159 or one can pay at the door.
